The Wanderers Cricket Club’s undoubted achievement of the 2021/22 season was the retention of the Imperial Women’s Premier League. Despite losing many games to rain, the team were able to win when it mattered most. Congratulations go to the captain Kirstie Thomson, her able deputy Jaclyn Kapp (when Kirstie was away on Provincial duty), coach Graham McMillan, manager Maddy Wolmarans and all the players. Special mention goes Marlene Grieb, who finished as the leading run scorer in the league, scoring two centuries.
The Wanderers is the only club with two women’s teams playing in the Lions Cricket Board leagues, the second XI coming third in the President’s league. With Women’s cricket growing, the long-term pipeline of players is being secured through the outreach programme for girls from Ivory Park.
